Why should you use these standards?
Procurement is a powerful instrument for organizations wishing to behave in a responsible way and contribute to sustainable development. By integrating sustainability into procurement policies and practices, including those covering supply chains, organizations can manage risk and optimize opportunities. Organizations should therefore use their influence to help their supply chains act more responsibly and sustainably, which BS ISO 20400 aims to support.
Collaborative business relationships can do businesses a great deal of good. They help build stability and trust that can drive down prices and costs, open wider markets and supply chains, and improve operational efficiency. BS ISO 44001 provides a framework that can be integrated into an organization’s operations and together with BS ISO 44002 help optimize the benefits of collaboration between organizations.
Using BS ISO 44001 and BS ISO44002 in conjunction with BS ISO 20400 will enable organizations to enhance their collaborative engagement with suppliers, customers and partners in using procurement to drive sustainability.
What’s changed since the last updates?
BS ISO 440002 replaces BS ISO 11000-2 and reflects:
- ISO’s new high-level structure for management systems standards
- Pan-industry best practice
- The experience gained by early adopters of BS ISO 44001
BS ISO 44001 started life as PAS 11000 Collaborative business relationships in 2006. It became BS 11000-1 in 2010 and is now an international standard. The opportunity to build on the experiences of BS 11000-1 has produced some rationalizations and greater clarity of requirements.
BS ISO 20400 is a new international standard. But it does cover much the same ground as BS 8903:2010 Principles and framework for procuring sustainably. Guide, which it replaced.
