BS EN ISO/IEC 17050-1 specifies general requirements for a supplier’s declaration of conformity. It applies to cases where it is desirable, or necessary, that conformity of an object to the specified requirements be proven, irrespective of the sector involved.

BS EN ISO/IEC 17050-1 will help anyone wanting to carry out self-assessments for conformity.  This self-assessment is known as a 'supplier's declaration of conformity'.

BS EN ISO/IEC 17050-1 will help to save time and money in product development and get products to the market quicker. This standard will allow a manufacturer to issue a supplier’s declaration of conformity to self-certify its product rather than send it to an external verifier such as a testing laboratory or inspection service.

Conformity assessment provides assurance for regulatory authorities, consumers, governments and customers that products meet or exceed performance standards.

The requirements in BS EN ISO/IEC 17050-1 apply to all sectors, however, they might need to be supplemented for specific purposes, for example for use in connection with regulations.
